CODP Reflections Action

Photoshop Reflections Action
This action is made up of three separate parts. It creates a reflection effect on an image. The image and reflection are ‘dropped’ on either a plain background (black by default) or on a horizon line. The layer masks and adjustment layers are left intact at the end. This allows you to adjust the effect as required. You can also add a caption with reflection to the image.
Photoshop Version: This action has been tested on Photoshop CS2 and later versions
Requirements: This action works on PC & Mac
Installation:
- To install this action, locate the following folder : "…/Adobe Photoshop/Presets/Photoshop Actions"
- Create a new folder within the above location and name it - "CODP Actions", then copy the action to this folder
- Start up Adobe Photoshop
- Open the Actions floating palette (Menu: Window > Actions)
- Click on the small arrow at the top right hand corner of the palette and from the drop down menu choose "Load Actions"
- Load your new action file, from the folder you created earlier to complete.
Using all three parts of this action
Reflections Main Action
- Once the action is loaded you will see a new folder in your actions list. This folder contains three separate parts, ‘Reflections main action’, ‘Adding a plain’ and ‘Adding a caption’.
- Highlight ‘Reflections main Action’ and click play, it will prompt you to click on the continue button and to select an image
- The next prompt is to change the colour of your canvas/background, click continue and then when the ‘New Layer’ window opens click OK. You will then have to select a colour
- The third prompt is to add a white border, however you can change the thickness and colour of the border to your liking, or by unchecking the ‘STROKE’ button remove the border altogether
- The final prompt says you have completed the first part of this action. You can now save the image as is or you can use the second part of the action to give it some depth
Adding a plain
- Highlight ‘Adding a plain’ and then click play
- You will be given the option to change the Hue and Saturation of the background colour, use the sliders until you get the settings that best compliment your image
- A prompt will come to say you have completed the second stage of this action
Adding a caption
- Only if you want to add text or a caption to your image will you use this part of the action
- The first prompt asks you to change the caption text to what you want it to say. When you have typed in your text click on the pointer tool proceed
- If you want to change the size of your caption hold down Shift+Alt (PC & Mac) and drag the transformation handles. Don’t use the arrow keys to move the caption around yet. When you have the desired size click Enter
- Now you can move text around with arrow keys if you want. If you are satisfied with where the text is click enter and you are done.
