Long time exposures of stars in the night sky result in curved or circular lines of different colours and thicknesses that are recorded by the camera. These are called star trails, essentially a record of the passage of time in your photograph. The beautiful, somewhat surreal result is something that we cannot see with our naked eye, but that the camera allows us to create.
Capturing successful star trail photographs is not merely pointing your camera at the night sky and leaving the shutter open for a while. Exposures may well run into many minutes when shooting star trails. With film photography there was no real limit to the duration of the exposure, but digital cameras do have limits here.
To do the workshop you need a digital SLR camera, sturdy tripod is essential, and you will need to use a cable release to trigger the shutter. You should also have completed the "Fundamentals of Digital Photography" course.
Learn how to master this unique photographic genre that echoes that photography is painting with light and time. You will learn how to shoot star trails with your DSLR camera, and also how to process and print your creation. The workshop consists of two lessons: the first is an evening shoot (weather permitting), and the second the editing and printing lesson.

* This is a school holiday course which will run over consecutive days
