Capturing successful star trail photographs is not merely pointing your camera at the night sky and leaving the shutter open for a while. On this workshop you will master this unique photographic genre that echoes that photography is painting with light and time, on a fun practical outing. Long time exposures of stars in the night sky result in curved or circular lines of different colours and thicknesses that are recorded by the camera. These are called star trails, essentially a record of the passage of time in your photograph. The beautiful, somewhat surreal result is something that we cannot see with our naked eye, but that the camera allows us to create.
The Star Trail workshop consists of two lessons: the first is a practical evening shoot in nature (weather permitting), and the second the editing and printing lesson, to be held at one of the CODP campuses.
Evening 1 will be spent on the shoot for the star trails at (venue to be finalised). Evening 2 will be spent at CODP downloading, assembling and printing the final star trail image.
Please note, to do the workshop you need a DSLR camera, sturdy tripod is essential, and you will need to use a cable release to trigger the shutter. You also need to complete the Fundamentals of Digital Photography course before enrolling for this advanced course. Workshop numbers are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment!
