Traveling Light – Mercia Raath-Boshoff
“The Fundamental principles of photography do not change, it does not matter what medium you are using to capture, as long as you capture using the needed elements – IE light, composition, good subject matter, and creative techniques ( with a touch of filters)”
For my recent adventure to the USA, I decided quite stubbornly that I would only take my beloved phone with me, as I wanted to give the “mobile photography” a proper attempt.
I also received my lens cover with a number of creative filters as a gift from Zavi Traders ( Thank you Dean and Madre )
Admittedly, this option caused some confusion in my household filled with DSLR / FILM CAMERAS and a range of lenses I can not even begin to number. You see, I wanted to be selfish, and for the first time, travel really light (pun intended) And also experience as a new instant image maker, what this whole mobile culture is about.
As I was not capturing for a magazine or client, just for me, so there was no pressure to impress or to over think. I saw so many beautiful moments, but chose to capture it a bit differently. I did however at one stage catch my own reflection in a shop window, and had to laugh at the image of myself holding up the phone, like a true tourist, snapping away. Even though I was saying quietly that I am not just any mobile image snapper, I am creating….
I found out quite a lot about this type of photography, and managed to surprise myself and the skeptics in my household, I was delighted at my images. Traveling light has a whole new meaning for me, I managed to capture the light, whilst keeping it light! PS – I hope you enjoy the image album, and had to include the ever popular “selfie” into the collection! Keep an eye out, as there is more images on the way!
